1.4-1.11 International Market Trends (from foreign sources)

As demand in Indonesia and South Korea continued to stabilize in the first quarter, Asian ammonium sulfate prices continued to rise. The high price of China’s domestic urea market has led buyers to consider ammonium sulphate as a cheap short-term alternative. Demand for Turkey and Brazil has slowly recovered since the Christmas holidays, and the next round of spot buying may be delayed until the end of January.

China: China’s caprolactam grade ammonium sulfate price in January and February is 112-118 US dollars / ton FOB. A Brazilian buyer is looking for goods, totaling 100,000 tons, including monoammonium phosphate, granular ammonium sulfate and caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate, all shipped in February. China issued a port of 50,000 tons of goods in Brazil, with a freight rate of 19-20 US dollars / ton. The inventory of ammonium sulfate in ports across China is stable at around 120,000 tons.

South Korea: A ship is sending Turkey from Ulsan, South Korea, with an average price of $144.2/tonne CFR. Shipping costs from South Korea to Turkey are estimated to be as high as $20/ton. There will be a single 2-2.5 million tons of goods from Ulsan to Vizag in India on the market, from January 21st to 31st.

Indonesia: It is understood that Petrokimia Gresik is looking for a boat, up to 5 ships, loaded in the first quarter.

US: It is understood that the delivery price of the United States to Turkey is US$132/ton CFR, and the prices to Ukraine or Morocco are basically the same.

Turkey: Black Sea Ammonium Sulfate is currently priced at US$162/tonne CFR, on-time delivery. The freight rate from the Black Sea to the southern port of Turkey is around $20/ton.

North West Europe: Manufacturers in northwestern Europe have provided large orders to Europe and Brazil in January and February, but no new enquiries have been made so far this year. Standard prices are stable at $130-140/tonne FOB and pellet prices are $160-170/tonne FOB.

Brazil: The price of ammonium sulphate loaded in January was stable but lacked new shipments. China’s standard ammonium sulfate price rose by US$2/ton in January to US$140-145/ton CFR Brazil, which is in line with European prices. Last year, although China’s ammonium sulphate imports fell by 1% to 1.9 million tons, exports have increased significantly. In 2017, China supplied 721,000 tons to Brazil, an increase of 34%, replacing the production of Belgium, the United States and Poland. Belgium fell 18% to 430,000 tons, while the United States was 392,000 tons, down 15%. In the ammonium nitrate market, imports rose by 12% last year to 1.3 million tons, most of which came from Russia.
