Whether in Eastern Europe or Western Europe, the supply of ammonium sulphate is tight and prices are still strong. Brazil’s demand is mainly granular and is expected to maintain price stability in addition to China and beyond the Northwest in the coming months.
North West Europe: The European market remained stable this week as buyers in the region were meeting to discuss the upcoming contract. Demand in Europe is still slow as consumers accept higher prices in the entire nitrogen fertilizer market. The price of the standard ammonium sulfate buyer is 130-135 US dollars / ton fob North West Europe, the seller hopes to reach 145-150 US dollars / ton fob North West Europe in November delivery, mainly due to the increase in urea and nitrate prices in the region, And the supply of ammonium sulphate in the Baltic and Black Sea regions is tight. According to reports, the price of standard ammonium sulfate to Brazil is $130/ton FOB Antwerp. This week’s granulated ammonium sulphate (3mm) is quoted at 215 euros/ton CIF inland, equivalent to 208 euros/ton FOB Benelux.
Baltic/Black Sea: As the producers of the Baltic and Black Sea continue to supply the local market, the amount of ammonium sulfate exported in October is limited. The mainstream price of the Baltic and Black Sea is $140-145/ton FOB. Some Western European producers have begun to ship cargo to the Baltic Sea because of the shortage of ammonium sulfate from Russia, and the standard ammonium sulfate price is close to $150/tonne CFR Baltic port.
Turkey: Due to financial problems, Turkey is currently not interested in ammonium sulphate new orders. Buyers said they will buy in November. A trader re-exported 6,000 tons of standard ammonium sulphate to Greece.
China: China’s price is stable at $116-119/ton FOB. The demand for coking arsenic sulfate manufacturers has kept market prices stable. China’s operating rate is still around 70%, and domestic demand is expected to limit exports in the coming months. According to reports, the price of coking ammonium sulfate stabilized at 660 yuan / ton (ex-factory price) this week, equivalent to the ex-factory price of 96 US dollars / ton. The extruded granular ammonium sulfate is quoted at approximately $150-155/tonne FOB China.
Brazil: Before the upcoming safrinha, Brazil’s demand for granular ammonium sulphate is expected to be very strong. According to the traditional market, 30-400,000 tons of ammonium sulfate will be needed in October/November. But this is only a small amount of goods. Safrinha’s sales season is expected to be delayed, so buyers may have to wait until November to buy again. According to Brazilian data, in the next two weeks, Brazil will have four ships carrying 116,000 tons of ammonium sulfate into the Brazilian port. Except for some seasonal delay purchases, it seems that some ships are waiting to enter the port, so actual imports are expected to be higher. According to the import statistics of GTIS, the import volume of ammonium sulfate in the first eight months of this year was 1.27 million tons, down about 6.7% year-on-year, equivalent to 92,000 tons, and the import volume in January-August 2017 was 1.36 million tons. To date, Chinese products account for 58% of total imports and Benelux accounts for 24%. European granular ammonium sulfate is priced at around $200-205/ton cfr, while small quantities are as high as $208/ton cfr. As the time of shipment from China gets tighter, we may see prices in Europe and the United States rise. Some sellers hope to reach $210/ton cfr in November. The price of high-quality extruded granules in China is between US$190-193/ton CFR, and the low-grade price is US$5-10/ton. Standard ammonium sulphate is stable between $150 and $155/CFR, and some European producers are interested in November at $155-160/ton CFR. However, interest in standard ammonium sulphate has decreased as buyers want to buy more granules.
Greece: It is reported that there are two small orders from Egypt to Greece this week: from September 25th to 28th, 4100-4400 tons of bulk ammonium sulfate from Abu Qir to Kalamaki and Thessaloniki, from October 8th to 10th, from Abu Qir to Stylida’s 2000 tons of bulk ammonium sulphate.
