Turkey: It is reported that a 3,000-ton internal grade ammonium sulphate freighter has been sold to a Turkish buyer at $130/ton fob Black Sea for delivery to Samsun. This is equivalent to a CIF price of $140/ton cfr. Turkish buyers are expected to look for more small-scale ammonium sulphate producers, which are expected to peak in late May/early June. European producers will seek goods with a minimum of $150/ton cfr. Further inquiries for large vessels from China are unlikely to occur this quarter. According to GTT data, Turkey imported 143,000 tons of ammonium sulphate in the first two months of 2019, up from 109,000 tons in the same period last year. China is still the main supplier of 97,000 tons, more than 71,000 tons. In the first two months of 2019, the United States supplied 31,000 tons, up from 19,000 tons a year ago; Ukraine supplied 15,000 tons, slightly lower than 19,000 tons a year ago.

Brazil: The peak demand season in Brazil is coming. According to reports, many goods will be shipped in April/May, and an estimated 220,000 tons of Chinese products will be shipped through different traders. In April this year, LANXESS will load 25,000 to 30,000 tons of ammonium sulphate to Brazil in Antwerp. The standard offer for ammonium sulphate in southern China is about $140 per ton, and the price in Europe is about $5 per ton.

China: Due to a variety of factors, including factory shutdowns, domestic market demand and rising interest in exports to Brazil, the price of caprolactam-grade products remains unchanged at $110-113/tonne FOB. According to reports, this week’s extrusion grade price is about 145 US dollars / ton fob China, depending on the quality. The FOB price of granular ammonium sulfate is about $160/ton. It is estimated that about 110,000 tons of extrusion-grade cargo ships will be loaded into Brazil in Tianjin and Longkou ports in April. Domestic strong demand for coking grades for compound fertilizer production, as well as Brazil’s demand for crushed grades in China, has begun to push up the price of southern coking grades. The steel coke grade is 630 yuan / ton (94 US dollars / ton), up 35 yuan / ton than the end of March. Argus estimates that the market will reduce by about 220,000 tons due to maintenance shutdowns between April and June. In addition, on March 26, Haili was forced to shut down its Jiangsu plant with an annual output of 300,000 tons of ammonium sulfate. On March 22, a fatal explosion occurred at a nearby chemical plant. The plant is expected to be shut down for about a month.
