12.21-1.4 International Market Trends (from foreign sources)

The ammonium sulphate market remains stable, with suppliers reporting limited supply in the coming month, which basically meets the short-term needs of buyers. The urea market has fluctuated in the past month and has not had a significant impact on commodity prices. Most of the purchases in the last quarter were carried out in December. The next round of buying is expected to be in mid-January.

China: This week, the price of caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate stabilized at $110-116/tonne FOB. CHS sold 7,000 tons of standard ammonium sulphate at a price of less than $140/tonne CFR and shipped it to the west coast of Central America. Net-backs recommends a price of $110/ton FOB China. In the freight market, 1.2 tons of ammonium sulphate is being inquired, from Fuzhou to Vietnam Guiren, loading from January 15th to 20th. The producer keeps the operating rate at 75-80%. China’s port stocks are stable at around 120,000 tons.

China’s export innovation is high

Supported by increased demand from Brazil and Turkey, China’s exports of ammonium sulphate from January to November reached 5.3 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 20%. Brazil is about to overtake Indonesia to become a major buyer in China. Indonesia’s 11-month import volume reached 860,000 tons, up 6% year-on-year, while Brazil’s imports reached 827,000 tons, up 60% year-on-year. Vietnam’s imports rose 3% to 668,000 tons compared with the same period last year, followed by the Philippines with 398,000 tons (up 5%) and Malaysia with 394,000 tons (up 4%). Due to the impact of Turkey’s ban on ammonium nitrate, the demand for ammonium sulphate has increased, so Turkey’s imports this year increased by 300% to 380,000 tons.

Turkey: China’s ammonium sulfate export price in January was US$135/ton CFR. The current freight cost of 40,000 tons from China to Turkey is about US$25/ton. South Korea’s ammonium sulfate is quoted at more than $140/ton CFR. The annual procurement tender for the Turkish partner company Pankobirlik ended on December 19th and the results have not yet been decided. In addition to urea and compound fertilizer, Panko also requires 30,000 tons of ammonium sulfate.

Brazil: Brazil’s standard caprolactam grade ammonium sulfate prices continue to be maintained at 140-145 US dollars / ton CFR, granular ammonium sulfate price is 185-195 US dollars / ton CFR. The price of extruded pellets is between $165 and $170/tonne CFR.

Baltic: Baltic sea caprolactam grade ammonium sulfate prices remain at a stable level of 125-135 US dollars / ton FOB, but due to holiday holidays, most market transactions are limited. The smaller producers shipped in February at around €120/t.

Northwestern Europe: The current price is stable at $130-140/tonne FOB, and the next batch of caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate and granular ammonium sulfate purchases are expected to be concentrated in mid-January.
