Russia: According to GTT data, Russian ammonium sulphate exports fell from 531,000 tons in 2018 to 374,000 tons, nearly one-third less than in 2017. The main reason for the decline in exports was the sharp decline in Ukrainian exports, which fell from 233,000 tons after the sanctions imposed on Russian fertilizer producers in 2017 to only 52,000 tons, a drop of 78%. Russia’s exports to Turkey in 2018 are five times that of Ukraine, reaching 70,000 tons, and in 2017 it was only 14,000 tons.

Europe/Baltic/Black Sea: Demand in Europe continues to be weak, and spot supply in February and March remains relatively tight. The standard grades are indicated at 120 – 122 Euro / ton and the medium high 130 US dollars / ton fob Northwest Europe. European sellers’ offers continue at $200-205/ton cfr. Due to the different suppliers, the price of the internal products is in the range of 140-148 US dollars / ton. As of the beginning of March, only 130,000 tons of ammonium sulfate will reach the Brazilian port. This is about half of the previous week. Brazil: Due to low demand at the end of the season, some unsold Chinese ammonium sulphate, which is backlogged by Brazilian ports, put pressure on sales prices. China’s extruded grade ammonium sulphate at a price of 180-185 US dollars / ton cfr, better quality at $ 190 / ton cfr. As traders try to get out of hand at the end of the import season, or start doing business in the new season, products with unspecified origin are quoted at $170/ton cfr. Toros purchased 8,000 tons of pellets, 16,000 Korean grades, and another 12,000 tons of lower grade ammonium sulfate from Chinese traders. The standard price is reported to be $150/tonne (excluding tariffs), the lower grades of Korean ammonium sulfate are $140/ton high and the pellet grade is $185/ton.

The price of Korean grade ammonium sulfate is US$114-115/ton, and the next batch of goods is quoted at US$112/ton. If demand continues to be low, FOB prices may fall to around $110 or even lower. In the Asian region on February 4-10 before the Spring Festival holiday, it is difficult to resume trading. It is expected that in the second week of February, the pellet manufacturers will consider the purchase of the domestic and new steel and Korean grade ammonium sulfate. Spain: It is reported that the price of 5,000 tons of standard grade ammonium sulphate is at a high of $130/ton.

Turkey: With the approach of spring, Turkey began to inquire about standard grade ammonium sulphate this week. Toros is looking for orders for 15-20000 tons for shipments in February, and another buyer is also inquiring. The last transaction price was $150/ton mid-high fob. Turkish buyer bids were down by about $10/ton. Given that China’s FOB price is around $115 per ton, this would mean that the CIF price is basically $140/ton cfr.

China: The price of caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate is lower at $115-117/ton this week. However, Brazil’s demand is over and the next offshore price of goods that may be shipped to Turkey is even lower, at $112-114/tonne.

North West Europe: As the market recovers from the Christmas and New Year holidays, this week’s new business is seasonally depressed. Suppliers are delivering pre-orders throughout key locations in Asia, including Germany, France, the UK and the Czech Republic. The standard grade price in the European market remained stable at $140/ton fob NW Europe. In contrast, with the end of the procurement season, the standard-level inventory of goods from Brazil was as low as $120/tonne FOB North West Europe, and the market was slightly weak.

Brazil: The sales season of extruded granular grade ammonium sulfate is gradually over, and the price of goods shipped to Brazil is gradually lower. The price purchased from China this week is 185-195 US dollars/ton. The specific price is determined by quality. Due to the short transit time, European producers have sold the last batch of goods in January at a price of $205/ton cfr, but prices have fallen. Lanxess will ship 25,000 tons of standard granular ammonium sulphate to Brazil in the next two weeks. It has shipped 10,000 tons before Christmas. China’s standard grade granular ammonium sulfate is about US$145/ton, and Europe is US$148-150/ton. Steel producer ArcelorMittal also released a tender for the December tender for ammonium sulphate. In December Kuibyshevazot no extra ammonium sulfate can be shipped. Due to strong domestic demand, it is expected that products will not be exported in January. In addition, demand for ammonium sulphate in Kazakhstan has increased from last year. Russian steel producer NLMK also did not have ammonium sulfate for export in December. It is mainly supplied to Phosagro and local farmers for sale.

Lithuania: It is reported that Lithuanian buyers have signed 50,000 tons of ammonium sulphate from Chinese traders in January, but did not disclose the price, about $116/ton fob or $140/ton cfr.

Exports to Turkey and Mexico have increased, but sales to the Asian market have fallen sharply.

China: Despite the decline in demand from Brazil, the Chinese ammonium sulphate market remains balanced. Affected by environmental protection and domestic demand began to boost, the domestic start-up is around 60%. Export sales are relatively slow, with prices staying at $116-118/ton fob. The trader/buyer’s intention is to push the next purchase price to $114-115/ton fob. The price of granular ammonium sulfate is 150-155 US dollars / ton fob.

Indonesia: This time, a total of 5,000 tons of caprolactam grade ammonium sulfate arrived in Hong Kong, the price is 133 US dollars / ton cfr. China’s container shipping costs are 8-10 US dollars / ton.

As of mid-January, 312,000 tons of cargo ships will arrive at the Brazilian port. This is more than 100,000 tons less than last week. Except for goods from Belgium, all ammonium sulfate comes from China.

The last purchase price of Turkish buyers was $160/ton cfr Korea and $150/ton cfr China. The exchange rate is 6.5. Since Brazil’s procurement season has ended, and most European buyers have sufficient supply before January next year, the goal is to keep the unpaid tariffs below $140 per ton, so buyers continue to drive down prices. This is equivalent to China’s FOB price of 114-115 US dollars per ton. On December 20-25, 30,000 tons (+/- 5%) of bulk ammonium sulphate was shipped from Qingdao to Iskenderun. The shipping cost from China to Turkey is $34/ton.

The goods have not yet been approved by the Russian railway authorities. The price of this shipment has increased by $10/ton from the price of the last shipment in November. It is unclear whether Russian steel producer NLMK will export ammonium sulphate in December. NLMK negotiated with Phosagro for the November-December price at the end of October, but is still discussing the December supply. The extruded granular ammonium sulfate is $150-155/ton fob, and the MMA grade is $100-105/ton fob. Malaysia: FPM purchased 36,000 tons of MMA grade ammonium sulphate and unloaded from two ports.

With a capacity of 400,000 tons/year, Grodno Azot needs more ammonium sulphate, so the number of local exports is reduced. China: This week’s caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate has a wide range of offers this week. The offshore price of many producers in January was $119-122 due to tight supply due to reduced production. However, as demand in Brazil weakens, demand in Southeast Asia and Turkey remains sluggish, and traders are bidding on prices that suppress prices of $115/ton fob or lower. The transaction price is 116-118 US dollars / ton fob. Under some equipment maintenance and environmental pressures, China’s operating rate has been maintained at an average of 60%.
