3.15-3.22 International Market Trends (from foreign sources)

China: Due to rising stocks and lower urea prices, the market is under certain pressure. The price of China’s national standard ammonium sulfate this week fell by about US$2/ton from last week to US$113-118/ton FOB. Demand in the first quarter was relatively low, and most buyers were doing steel grade and granular ammonium sulfate. China’s extruded granular ammonium sulfate price is still less than $150/ton fob.

India: On March 19th, Deepchem Fertilizer’s subsidiary Smartchem Technologies (STL) purchased 2-2.5 million tons of caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate, which was required to be delivered to a port on the west coast of India by April 16. However, the transaction has not been confirmed before March 23. India imports about 120,000 tons of ammonium sulfate per year, most of which are shipped to STL on a quarterly basis.

Turkey: Gubretas, Toros and Ege all trade in the spot market, but other major Turkish buyers are covered in the short term.

Brazil: Due to the weakening of the Chinese market price and the low intention to find goods downstream, the price of caprolactam-grade ammonium sulfate fell slightly to 140-145 US dollars / ton. The price of pellets has stabilized at $175-190/ton, but European spot prices have continued at $190-$200/ton cfr.
